Making
Cases at Bulgari: What Does a Designer's Workstation Look Like?
A window
seat at work can be a highly coveted spot when you have a long day ahead of
you.
Deep in thought...
The
inception of all case production is likely to begin here, in the development
office where the concept of a watch case is turned into working reality. In
this crucial initial step, the ideas and drawings of the watch designers are digitally
translated into designs that are physically capable of being produced. Final
technical drawings are implemented and the programming for the CNC machines in
production is done.
During
this phase, there may be compromise being made between parties. Just as architects
and civil engineers may grapple between differing viewpoints for a successful
building, such is also the case with watch designers and machinists who must
also find middle ground between an artistic concept and a functional mechanism.
With enough exchange between the experts, a successful design can always be
found that preserves the essence of the design and fulfills the restrictions
for production.

The watch
case design is finalized using 3D-CAD software followed by machine programming.
This is done using CAM software which
simulates the movements of the cutting tools and the workpiece. The technical
process allows for optimization of the tool paths and assurance that the part
can be made quickly and safely.

And maybe you will give us later some examples of 3D printing! About your question, it is quite difficult to answer you. I have so many parameters to take into account. I expect from a case a complex design... which has to look simple! (I don't know if I'...

Thank you for your answer. You are right, there are so many things to consider and each watch is different and has its own unique qualities that make it appealing. Hmm, 3D printing, will have to try to dig some up :) Thanks again and agree on the Octo.
Choosing a Bulgari watch case
By: MTF : September 21st, 2013-20:36
I agree with FrX above about the factors for choosing a watch case by BVLGARI or any brand. The complex case should look simple or effortless. The finishing should enhance the design. The case and strap/bracelet should meld harmoniously and be proportiona...
What do you look for in a watch case when buying a watch?

Aas we cannot argue about taste (or should not) beauty would be wrong to put down - original design (so not a mix of a nautilus and a royal oak) - timeless but strong design that will last for decades if possible - !!! comfort !!! a watch thats does not w...
Very good points!

Seems like comfort is a common theme and crucial point to consider.
Of course we all like sexy cases but what else is important?
By: AnthonyTsai : September 23rd, 2013-18:15
For me, here are some quick thoughts off the top of my head: 1) Original designed case. Not the boring round case. 2) I like cases w/ different finishing combined - polished, brushed, PVD'ed, etc. But it all has to be put together harmonious! 3) Strong fe...
Unique featuers...

Yes, nothing compares to having a unique feature that sets the watch apart from the standard type cases.
I look for classic style and comfort

I do not limit my choices when it comes to watch cases. I am extremely fond of the Octo case and think Bulgari has done an excellent job modernizing it.
