A True Story About a Birthday, a Burglary and a Bulgari Watch

On a recent wine excursion to Napa Valley I met a lovely couple at a sit-down tasting and was told an extraordinary story that I simply had to share with the PuristSPro community. Chance will have it, I sat across from a woman not too much older than myself who was elegantly dressed in a slim fitting navy sleeveless dress and since she wore no accessories except for a watch, I immediately took notice of it against her tanned skin.

I was delighted to see the stainless steel BVLGARI BVLGARI watch with a black dial and steel bracelet casually playing company to her wrist. Almost like discovering we had both attended the same college, I felt an immediate connection, even if it was all one-sided. I figure I should make her aware of the secret kinship as well.

“You like Bulgari!” (strategically placing my wrist in open view)

Taking a second to process my words, following my eyes to her wrist and then in quick realization accompanied by a blossoming expression she responded with,

“Oh...yes!” and returning the downward gaze, “Is yours too?”

The next few minutes were spent exchanging compliments about watch choices and me talking about Bulgari, moderatorship, PuristSPro, reviews and the Ladies Diagono I was temporarily wearing. She told me how she had just recently switched the watch from a leather strap to the bracelet and really liked the more formal look of the watch.  I might have also thrown in a detail or two about snake watches and the P10 X-Pro. I was beginning to sound like a voluntary spokesperson for the brand. Fully unintentional, it’s simply an inevitable occurrence that comes along naturally with brand immersion. I wonder how many other moderators have come to adore the brands that they moderate?

When the topic of Rome and the Via Condotti store came up, her husband, who was also taking part in the watch discussion the whole time immediately interrupted us saying how he had to tell me the story of when he gave the Bulgari watch to her and that it was a great story and I wouldn’t believe it after he told me. Completely intrigued, and a little more relaxed now after a few sips of the pinot that was just poured, I listened intently as he told me the story.

A number of years ago the man was temporarily living in Italy with his wife and their daughter who was 4 years old at the time. He was a consultant and was accustomed to traveling frequently with his family. For his wife’s 37th birthday, they had planned a trip to Paris and decided to take the overnight train to get there. He knew that his wife had an affinity for Bulgari but had yet to own anything other than the sunglasses and fragrance. He also knew that it had always been a dream of hers to visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris. And so with the help of his daughter, they picked out the stainless steel BVLGARI BVLGARI watch for her as a surprise to be presented to her at the Eiffel Tower.

I have heard many romantic watch stories before but this was beginning to sound like a Nicholas Sparks novel. On the day they were to leave to catch the train to Paris, his daughter watched as he packed his bag for the trip. As he went to grab the watch box which contained his wife’s gift, he stopped and asked his daughter where the Hello Kitty watch that he had given to her for her last birthday had gone. She responded by saying that it was still in the box in her room. Her father then said to her, “Why aren’t you wearing it? Watches belong on wrists, not in boxes.” She promised that she would wear it more.

Just then the man’s wife called from the next room asking for help with getting something. He quickly stuffed the Bulgari watch box into his bag and went to help her. When he got back he finished packing his bag and off they went to the train station.

On the train they had a sleeper car and after doing some reading the man fell asleep while his wife kept their daughter entertained. When he woke up, he was alone in the sleeper car. Assuming that his wife and daughter probably just went to the restroom, he got up to stretch his legs and noticed that his bag was missing. He quickly scanned the cabin not finding it and also noticed that his wife’s bag was missing as well. Just then his wife and daughter returned and he immediately asked whether they had the bags. His wife answered no. Frantic, the man searched again but soon realized that someone had probably entered their car while he was sleeping and taken the bags when his wife and daughter had left.

“Oh my god...your gift was in the bag.” He told his wife.

“What gift?” asks the wife.

“Your birthday gift. I got you a watch, a really nice one. But now it’s gone.” he replied in a completely sullen tone.

Just then their daughter spoke up. “No it isn’t daddy. Puffy is wearing it.” and she took out her light pink dressed Build-a-Bear from her backpack which was wearing the Bulgari watch on its wrist. Her father grabbed the bear and took the watch off to examine it. Surely it was the BVLGARI BVLGARI that they had purchased from the boutique. Completely relieved, he gave his daughter and wife a big hug and asked her why Puffy was wearing the watch. The daughter responded by saying, “Because you said that watches belong on wrists and not in boxes. I have a watch. You have a watch. Puffy didn’t have a watch.” All he could do after that was smile.

After the couple at the winery finished telling me the story I just stared at them speechless at first and then said, “You’re right. I don’t believe it. That’s incredible!” At that point we were poured another round of wine, this time a 2010 Cabernet from the Diamond Mountain district of Napa. He just raised his glass and said, “See I told you...cheers to Bulgari.”

I agree about Bulgari watch and all watches, in general

Thanks for sharing the story. I agree with the gentleman: Watches are meant for use and are not box "investments"; particularly Bulgari watches since their experience with bracelets result in very comfortable wrist gear. What a lucky old bear! Regards, MT...

I am beginning to realize...

....that their craftmanship and design in bracelets is definitely a strong point. Curious to try one myself one of these days.

wow what an awesome story

The father sure gave great advice to his daughter and thank god the daughter heeded his advice and put the watch on her Teddy bear. Cheers, Anthony

Your recount is as

gripping as the story itself. Obviously the watch, even though steel, meant much more than their luggage and I can understand that. Thank you for sharing. Melvin

Thanks!

Yup, that is true...however with Bulgari watches, even the stainless steel ones are quite expensive. Thanks for reading.

A very enjoyable read!

jeromed, Welcome to our forum. Behind every successful man is a good woman. Conversely, Pairing with every woman's BVLGARI watch / bracelet / bag is a man's prerogative....... Regards, MTF photo by MTF ...

I tend to agree

And my other half will never let me forget that. Thanks, the Octo is on my Christmas wish list :)

Steel or Gold?

 By: MTF : September 2nd, 2013-20:22
jeromed, Steel is practical and affordable, plus the colour contrast is so Art Deco. I like black dials on rose gold, in general, but the colour of BVLGARI Octo black on rose gold is particularly fetching. Personally, I choose steel if I was lucky enough ...

Welcome!

The gathering of these small stories create the legend of a brand... Fx

What an eloquent way to put it.
