Is there a Bulgari watch under your pillow?

Often it’s a piece of chocolate on your pillow.  Sometimes it’s a little teddy bear or some other small stuffed animal with the hotel logo on it.  I’ve seen gift baskets or bags with a selection of goodies, fruit or refreshments.  In the case of IGOTT2 it was a row of small glass jars filled with truffles, nuts and candies – arguably the best feature of the room aside from the plush robe and soft pillows.  The hotel gift is a small detail but can be a source of quick comparative judgment when thinking between various hotels.

Nowadays, it might take a little more than a piece of chocolate to entice people into a return visit to a hotel.  Even the tooth fairy has upgraded her under-the-pillow offerings.  I remember when a quarter was customary.  My daughter has been receiving $20 a pop including a small trinket.  (We have a generous tooth fairy assigned to our household.)  Hotels are apparently coming up with more creative promotional packages and pillow prizes to lure potential customers.

So what if you slide your key card into the door slot, open the door to your hotel room, walk over to the bed and instead of a chocolate, jar of nuts or teddy bear what you find under your pillow is a brand new Bulgari watch?  Seems a bit extravagant and unlikely but it just might be the reality for some lucky patrons who choose to stay at the Ritz Carlton in Dallas this summer.  The hotel has partnered with the new Bulgari boutique at NorthPark Center in Dallas for what they are calling the ‘Suite Dreams Shopping Experience’.

Through Labor Day, guests can stay overnight in a deluxe suite at the hotel, enjoy breakfast for two and get carted off to the Bulgari store at NorthPark Center to go shopping.  Once there, each guest will receive special concierge service and a gift from the boutique - either a choice of one of their internationally renowned fragrances such as BVLGARI pour femme, BLV, or Jasmin Noir or a Bulgari coffee-table book by Sotheby jewelry experts, Daniela Mascetti and Amanda Triossi.

Of course the best part of the package is a chance to win a Bulgari Carbon Gold Limited Edition Watch.  Each month, one lucky ‘Suite Dreams’ guest, who is selected through a random process, will receive the surprise watch under his or her pillow.  What a novel way to receive a prize.  Perhaps Bulgari should have placed the winning card for their Bali Resort giveaway that they had at IGOTT2 under the winning Purists’ pillow.

This new watch is made to commemorate the historical BVLGARI boutique in Rome at Via dei Condotti 10.  The BVLGARI-BVLGARI Carbon Gold has an updated 40mm sized case in stainless steel and carbon fiber.  The caseback is transparent and is fitted with a mechanical automatic movement with 42 hour power reserve.

The side of the case has a metal plaque engraved with the year of the foundation of Bulgari in 1884

The cost of the package is $399 – not bad for luxury accommodations, personalized service and a take home prize.  Dallas isn’t at the top of my list of places to visit this time of the year.  I’m somewhat partial to the dry, sunny blue-sky’d weather of Southern California which I call home.  However if I’m finally in the market to pick up that stainless Serpenti I’ve been dreaming about, I just might reconsider.  I’ve told my little one that the tooth fairy doesn’t visit adults because our teeth don’t fall out but maybe just this once, she’ll make an exception.
