The Bulgari Collection Daniel Roth Endurer Chronosprint is one of the most anticipated watches in Bulgari's new collection. Many individuals here on the Bulgari forum have expressed interest in this watch due to its appealing sporty design. The shape and design of the case offers a formal reinterpretation of the elliptical case that is characteristic of the Daniel Roth line to which it belongs. It f eatures a sturdier, more rugged look , and expresses its subtleties through softened angles and curves. The Endurer isn't due to hit retail outlets until the fall but we can get a closer look at it here in the mean-time from live pictures courtesy of 'Kong'.
The flared ears on the sides of the case at 3 and 9 o'clock are some of the most attractive elements of the design of the watch. One can almost say that the Endurer looks like an offspring from the AP Offshore and Patek Nautilus, taking the strengths of both watches and fusing them together brilliantly.
Black and satin-brushed dial, sapphire crystal
Calibre DR1306 beats to the rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and drives the hour and minute hands on a slightly off-centred axis, while the large date window appears at 12 o’clock. Its patented mechanism is based on a specific construction due to the off-centred position of the hour and minute functions serving to ensure an optimal position of the Chronosprint function.
A simplified chronograph function which serves to measure long times, whereas traditional chronographs are generally used to measure short times on two to three counters. The Chronosprint function indicates the hours and minutes by two hands mounted on a single arbor.
One press on an ergonomically notched push-button at 7:30 positions the hands at 12 o’clock and starts the chronograph.
Chronosprint push button and crown in DLC treated steel
Case in Staybrite© steel, a treatment ensuring extreme corrosion resistance and also endowed with superlative polishing qualities, 56mm brushed steel with polished edges Alligator leather strap fitted with a steel pin buckle.
Self-winding movement, Chronosprint and Large Date functions, Côtes de Genève and circular-grained finishing; 28,800vph, 42-hour power reserve, steel caseback with sapphire crystal, water-resistant to 100 meters.
The new version of the Endurer by Bulgari features a cleaner dial with a bit more contrast. This freed up space on the dial has allowed the big date window to stand out more in the Bulgari model as opposed to the original. There may be slight difficulty in reading the time at the lower part of the dial between 4 and 8 o'clock on the original version due to the absence of hour and minute indices. This shouldn't be a problem on the Bulgari Endurer with the addition of the minute markers around the entire inner bezel of the watch. One change to the watch, that I thought to be the most unfortunate is the swapping out of the original leather strap for the new alligator strap which isn't nearly as interesting. The original strap had cross horizontal bands that provided a unique look and complemented well with the dial design. The new strap is one that you can find on just about any other watch. However, the designs of both watches are similar in nearly every other aspect with only minor variations that have not detracted from the original sporty and sophisticated appeal of the watch. The essence of the Endurer remains in tact in a way that even the hard core Daniel Roth fans can appreciate.
