PRE BASEL 2009

BVLGARI PRESENTS the new SOTIRIO BULGARI watch
- 125th anniversary edition

Around the middle of the 19th century, a vision of elegance transcending time and frontiers was born with Sotirio Bulgari.

On the 125th anniversary of its foundation, Bulgari dedicates a watch to this multicultural trailblazer, businessman and aesthete, a watch as extraordinary as the founder of this venerable company.

Three commemorative editions of 125 copies realised in pink gold, yellow gold and white gold in the 42 mm size celebrate the 125th anniversary of Bulgari.

The new Sotirio Bulgari features a classic style reinterpreted in a contemporary key. A perfect synthesis of innovative design and manufacturing skill, it is distinguished by its sophisticated workmanship and great attention to detail. The new collection dedicated to this man is Bulgari's new version of a formal watch, featuring handmade movements, dials finished with exclusive treatments and a unique design for the watchcase whose bezel is distinguished by the absence of the Bulgari logo.  It pays tribute not only to the firm’s founder but also a great tradition: the same that gave technical and aesthetic form to the innovative case made by Bulgari.

The lugs are a prominent feature of all watches in the Sotirio Bulgari line. Characterised by a converging inclination integrated with the back, their particular construction meets the challenge of offering high shock resistance in spite of the joint’s reduced size. This makes the double glossy and satiny finish possible. It features a customised winding crown, curved sapphire crystal with anti-glare treatment and a transparent back.

The argenté watch face is made by Bulgari; the Roman numerals and faceted markers are applied by hand. The skeleton hour and minute hands are faceted. The watch strap is made of black alligator skin with an 18 carat Bulgari tongued buckle.

The BVL 250 calibre automatic Bulgari movement is made of 250 pieces. The watch has a 55 hour power reserve, with 32 rubies and 28’800 oscillations/hour (4 Hz). It has a diameter of 25.60 mm and is 3.73 mm thick. The bridges feature an exclusive design and are embellished by côtes de Genève, diamantés and perlage treatments. The customised weight features a satiné circulaire treatment and external segment in 18 carat gold.

The form of the bridges and the weight of this calibre was redesigned to highlight the creativity of the watch and reveal as much as possible of the movement with its sophisticated finishing. These testify to the sophisticated Swiss savoir faire that went into the making of this watch and were executed in full compliance with the qualitative parameters established for haut de Gamme movements.
The plate and bridges are embellished with two different perlage treatments: an original coaxial côtes de Genève and a traits tirés treatment. All corners are diamantés, just like the mounting of the rubies. The 18 carat gold oscillating segment is finished with a satiné circulaire treatment, while the central part is colimaçonnée. The Swiss finisseurs’ standard of craftsmanship is manifested by the care taken in decorating even the smallest components, such as the screw heads, which are polished.

The three new versions offer the added feature of a double back in 18 carat gold that opens to reveal the insides of the movement and the long, tireless quest for perfection.

Not so bad...

I really like the case and there are some nice ideas on the dial. I regret the date indicator, I find it a bit confusing, I would have prefered the watch without it. Thanks a lot Kong ! Fr.Xavier

Perhaps some symmetry

Would you like the date more if there were some sort of indication on the 9 o'clock side to balance it out? I think that would make me more inclined to like the date. I like the indication, but I find it breaks the layout I do wish they had sent a pic of ...

Movement pic....

Hi A Just received the pics of the movement and the half-hunter-caseback. Placed it in the main post. I agreed with you of the break of the layout and could do without the date. Otherwise would prefer the date to be relocated to elsewhere like just above ...

Maybe a second time zone?

Put a wheel with the hours for a second time zone on it? It's a nice looking movement! A

Likewise FX, can live without the date. [nt]

Good move on Bulgari's part of not having its name on the bezel

I hope this will be commonplace with all new models for now on. Cheers, Anthony
