A lot of horological history

in your post Marc.
I woke up and i was into the Citizen group.
I open this app and saw your interesting post.
I wanted to trade in my FC, and the party rejected my offer.
I know they are snobs, but why do they advert?
The mail was polite, so that is not the point. The snobbish attitude makes it ugly.
How different trading is with their counterparts in the same city who are correct and have not such a bad attitude. It’s maybe their Italian soul that made them great to trade with. I never did bring the offer to them, but i will visit them, because they worth it, i am worth it.

I never knew AP was a playball. A victim of quartz crisis.
But it seems a hard time brings a lot of innovations.
ML how small they where and maybe are did gave us the look throughout case back.
Minerva as we know is thrown and resurrected a lot, and ended up as a part of Montblanc who is now a Richemont part.
It is proven every watch brand is great to know, and there is no reason to be a snobbish watch trader.
Is AP a loser compare to Rolex and Patek Philippe what happen in the eighties?
Than VC is the same. So good you gave me an insight into GP.
Also a wonderful watch brand, despite i can not test it at the snobs, while such a watch is a forever watch, no need to sell.

Desco is new to me, sounds AP had gone through the eye of the needle.
Rescued by a party that bought it maybe for a penny, and the narrow escape when the market gone up restoring from the quartz attack.
As i know about Kering owned GP, was it a hard time for you Marc?
Is there a different in the watches now GP is a free watch brand?
What is for example the difference with a Kering Laureato and a pure GP Laureato?
A Desco Laureato? With the animal ring, the stars are a complication while a lazy watch brand brought only a print on the dial of the animal ring MT. Chinese and Western animal ring - MT did print the Chinese animal ring.
GP remembers me a lot of FC, same boat, so that is quite interesting to see how impacts and events works on those brands.
Would they became stronger or would they only find the hearts of specific watch collectors?
As i wrote this, UN is unmistakeable also such a watch brand that see hard situations, made wonderful watches, and goes from owner to owner.
I thought a lot of it, while we see Ludwig Oechslin and Rolf Schnyder talking how to rescue their watch company back then when the Japanese brands had left a ravage.

From the Archives ... What if I told you that the owners of Girard-Perregaux in the 1980s also owned part of Audemars Piguet? Yep, Desco von Schulthess or DESCO for short owned 100 % of GP in the 1980s. DESCO bought over GP from the daughter and son-in-la...

Yes. Desco owned a few brands in many areas

But I've got to say, I'm way more impressed that you were somehow able to travel to the 19080s to corroborate this historical fact πŸ˜„.... Cheers, Filip

But thanks for that Filip … Nicolas, can I post it to the GP forum as well or can not repost twice? Maybe I change it a bit?

Thanks

Desco is quite powerful. They held the distribution rights for AP for China, HK, Japan in the early 2000s. Not sure about now. I also read that they wantrd the AP CEO changed … Meylan.

Could be. I got the pic from

The internet. I’m not so familiar with ML. I googled ML 1980s models. More for visual impact than anything else. The Laureato and the RO are both actually from the 80s

Agree KMII. More to come.

GP website and such does not mention anything about Desco. Zero. They mention Otto Graef and Macaluso but it’s implied that there was nothing in-between AP chronicles website mentions Desco.
